ABOUT US

Circulus Energy is an infrastructure developer who specialises in the development of waste to energy projects. We look at converting waste into one of three uses.
Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF) pellets and high value end of waste fuels
Electricity using gasification
Hydrocarbon fuels through the biorefinery process
Our organisation aims to use innovation to meet the challenge of increased variability in the waste sector. The advent of China’s refusal to accept contaminated recyclate streams, and increased landfill tax forcing the closure of many of the landfill sites and the uncertainty over issues like Brexit, has created an environment where alternative treatments and process are becoming essential to meet the increasing demands of the sector. The group will use industry proven technology to produce fuels for the energy sector that creates renewable energy from waste
OUR OBJECTIVES
•To create the best opportunity to stimulate investment and create jobs through the development of a technology that can harness and create a prosperous domestic industry.
• By deploying innovative technologies in the residual waste fraction that the UK currently sends to landfill, or overseas as SRF, the UK can build on its key strengths of engineering, waste management, and innovation by creating end of waste fuels for renewable power plants and cement kilns.
• To change the perception that residual waste is valueless to society by creating a fuel that can displace fossil fuels.

Circulus Energy have brought together a highly-experienced team, pooling a range of expertise, to deliver a turnkey solution to create fuel from municipal waste. We are establishing a number of waste to fuel pellett plants that are capable of converting 85,000 tonnes of municipal waste into 40,000 tonnes per annum of SRF, for which we will seek end of waste status. Partnering with a manufacturer of convertor technologies, the organisation will look to provide a turnkey solution for commercial waste handlers, government departments and local authorities to help mitigate their issues of spiralling costs and ever-increasing surplus refuse.
TECHNOLOGIES USED
WASTE TO SRF CONVERTER
The converter transforms solid waste into Solid Recovered Fuels (SRF) and high value end of waste fuels. This SRF can then be pelletised and used in cement kilns or gasification processes. The converter technology is based on the principle of mechanical to thermal energy transformation, hence the machines can reach an optimal sterilization temperature of 150°C, without high pressure. Converters do not create any type of pollution. The feedstock can include, household/ municipal, industrial, organic and any type of waste that isn’t radioactive or explosive. There is an option to add medical, hazardous and infectious waste.

SMOLDERING PROCESS
Using a modular plant, waste is converted into energy. The waste is put through a converter, reduced in size, sterilized and dried to produce a high quality SRF. The SRF then goes through the smoldering process. Smoldering is a gasification process at low temperatures which avoids the formation of dioxins, furans and Nox and produces a clean syngas. The syngas is then burned at 900°C for 2 minutes to destroy any organic pollutant. The heat produced by the combustion of the syngas is then recovered to produce the energy needed for  the plant and to supply external requirements. The amount of energy produced is dependent on the size and scale of the plant as well as the amount and type of feedstock that goes into it.
WASTE TO HYDROCARBON PLANT
The Bio Refinery  converts waste into the hydrocarbon fuel. This is by initially using a waste convertor followed by a cavitation and then a distillation process. The plant recovers the following:
• 100% of the metals and of the inert materials, clean from any organic impurity;
• 100% of the water, clean and ready to be used for agricultural purpose;
• clean renewable CO2, to be enhanced in carbon fertilization greenhouses.
The result is a modular system able to handle 20,000 to 80,000tonnesper year, creating a cost effective way to recycle through the development of a real circular economy
HYBRID SYSTEM - SOLAR, WTE AND BATTERY STORAGE
The System produces electric energy from a variety of different processes. The first is through the solar roof. The second is through a modular waste to energy gasification system. This procces can take any kind of waste containing energy. Finally there is battery storage to store the energy that is produced. In case of an emergency there is a diesel generator for backup.
ABOUT OUR PARTNERS
PORTAL GROUP
The Portal Group have spent the last 20 years developing and operating major infrastructure projects across the UK. From building and running large office and data centres to owning and running windfarms, the company’s expertise has enabled it to deliver highly complex projects on time and within budget.
OMPECO/PI
OMPECO have developed over 30 projects around the world for the waste conversion process. They have a strong track record in mechanical and electrical engineering and are based in the engineering centre of Italian manufacturing; Turin
OMPECO have recently secured a multi-unit order with the UK Ministry of Defence to help the military to reuse the waste they create into a valuable resource. They have gone through a rigorous selection process, which culminated in them being awarded supplier status to NATO alongside the MoD.
